Description
This indigenous craft has deep rooted origin and history of about 700 years embedded in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Tangaliya weaving is primarily done by the Dangasiya community. The specialty of this weaving is thread beads, aka Daana weaving which is woven into the fabric to make pretty motifs. Our master weaver of the revived Tangaliya handloom art form hails from Dedadara village. Overcoming the patriarchal dogma of passing traditional knowledge only to male children, he has taught this weaving art to his daughter. The art is struggling because it has few practitioners and he wants this skill to be passed down to the next generation for its survival.
