About us

Bringing consciousness into your clothing choices! We focus on preserving and reviving ancient handloom weaving and hand craft traditions;  promote slow and sustainable fashion; using natural fibers, caring for the earth, encouraging fair trade and traceability.

Our collections are handmade/ handcrafted, natural, sustainable and unique! Our style is whimsical and contemporary; inspired by classic weaves and crafts of India! Wispy cottons with subtle tone on tone shades or unexpected embroidery detail; alongside traditional color combinations in silk paired with neutral pieces.

 Why "Bhavana"?

In Sanskrit, Bhavana means feelings/emotions which reflects this work of passion.

It also means to cultivate. To cultivate you must pull out the weeds (deeply ingrained ways of being and thinking), and plant behaviors that you want to bring into your life (self-improvement). That's when you can begin to sow love, kindness, joy, happiness, humility, gratitude and  peace.

Meet the Owner

Namaskara! I am Priya; owner and founder of Bhavana. I am an alumni of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), India and FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising), San Francisco, CA. I was born in India and grew up in Chennai.

After working 17 years or so in the retail industry, I re-discovered my passion for handlooms and established Bhavana in 2020.

Now, I travel all over India in search of ancient weaves and crafts, visit the incredible sights, experience the rich heritage, shop for a living, design clothing that blends the traditional and modern, all while being able to prioritize my kids and set my own pace! Life is beautiful :)

I live in Fremont, CA with my husband and two kids.
