Description
Muslin Jamdani (aka figured muslin) is a super fine quality fabric embellished with exquisite ethnic motifs; it’s the pride and heritage of Bengal (India, Bangladesh). Muslin is one of the lightest, hand spun and hand woven fabrics in the world. The finer counts of muslin (upto 500 Khadi count/ 300 English count) is woven by the skilled native hand spinners & weaver families. The whole process from spinning to weaving involves anywhere from 16 to 20 steps! The name, Jamdani, is of Persian origin and comes from the word jam meaning flower and dani meaning vase, descriptive of the floral motifs. The motifs are created directly on the hand loom using the discontinuous weft technique. The weaver works with two layers of weft – one to hold the cloth together and the other to form the pattern. Each motif is made individually by interlacing the pattern threads with the warp threads while weaving.
